My memory of EX is pretty hazy at this point, but I remember at least liking it. I have a real soft spot for the Normal version.

Thordan EX, specifically the EX mode because story mode is so undertuned even when it was on content. I really feel like they peaked with it and I hope to be proven wrong soon. Just a phenomenal fight in terms of just about everything. It barely has any new mechanics, most of them are just normal mode without markers. Infinitely cringe to just like fight adds and click on devices for 90% of the fight.ĭW was too close to the normal mode imo. Honestly, though, most EXs are pretty solid. The fight doesn't really have any gimmicky tricks to it but it still manages to stay pretty engaging unlike Innocence. I just really liked the mechanics in the last phase on this one, there were some nice combinations they came up with. Running across his tail at the end is like an all-time top 5 moment and the last phase has some cool mechanics with dipping into the Doom to dodge the Dynamo and breaking the chains into pair stacks. Other than that, I thought placing the tail was pretty interesting and it's nice how the Icicles keep you on your toes. This is I think the first EX where the enemy list became really useful, which I really enjoyed. Definitely the most varied and thematic EX in the game. I know a lot of people don't like the downtimes, but I thought it was really nice how many different phases the fight had and how little of the 'tutorial into real mechanic' pattern that so many EXs have showed up in the fight as a result. Mainly thinking about the EX versions here since you don't really run normal mode trials that often anyway.
